Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) was established in 1961 and is one of the top engineering and research institutes sprawling over 320 Acres in the Hauz Khas region of Delhi. The institute has two other satellite campuses located in Sonipat and Jhajjar. The international campus of IIT Delhi is located in Abu Dhabi. According to the NIRF Ranking 2023, IIT Delhi is ranked “2” in the engineering category and “3” in the overall category. Further, IIT Delhi Ranking has risen 47 places from 197 to 150 in the QS World University Ranking 2025.
IIT Delhi's most popular courses include B.Tech and M.Tech. B.Tech Admission at IIT Delhi is done based on JEE Advanced followed by JOSAA Counselling whereas for M.Tech admission, the institute accepts GATE Scores followed by COAP Counselling followed by Written Test & Interview. Apart from B.Tech & M.Tech, it also offers B.Des, MBA, M.Des, M.Sc, PhD & PG Diploma.
IIT Delhi offers great placement opportunities to the students onboard. As per the media releases, IIT Delhi Placements 2024 Phase 1 has concluded. About 1000 students received 1050 placement offers (including pre-placement offers from 20 organizations). Students received more than 50 international offers. Some of the top recruiters included Air India, Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Goldman Sachs, Bajaj Auto etc. Since the institute's inception, over 48000 students have graduated from IIT Delhi and 5070 received PhD degrees. The institute has academic collaborations/ Research/ Teaching / Student mobility partnerships with more than 100 universities across the globe.

Scholership
Students enrolled across various courses at IIT Delhi are offered several scholarship schemes and financial assistance to lessen their financial burden and to cover academic and other expenses during the entire program. The institute offers both external and internal scholarships to its students based on their qualifications and scores. However, a student needs to satisfy minimum eligibility criteria to avail the facility of scholarship awards and grants. Some of the popular scholarship schemes offered by IIT Delhi are as follows:
Merit Cum Means Scholarship:
- The MCM (Merit Cum Means) Scholarships are offered to the students in the Undergraduate Programs of Engineering & Technology or M.Sc Programs.
- Only 25% of the students are sanctioned to get this scholarship as per the institute's rules.
- Students of IIT Delhi whose annual family income or parent's gross income is up to INR 4.5 lakhs.
- An award of INR 1000 is awarded per month to the students belonging to the GEN/OBC/EWS categories and the recipients are exempted from paying the tuition fee.
- The tuition fee is exempted to all the students of the SC/ ST/ PwD category.
Research Assistance
- Research Assistance is provided to the students who are enrolled in the Ph.D. or research programs at IIT Delhi and are willing to work for the department.
- Any student enrolled in the research-based programs on a full-time basis at IIT Delhi.
- A minimum of INR 15,000 is awarded per month to students who can work about 20 hours a week.
- For the students enrolled in MS Research Programme, a sum of INR 24,000 is awarded per month to work 8 hours a week.
